Tips for buying and selling vintage clothing

I have always had a real love for rummaging through car boots and flea markets. In the last ten years, I have seen prices shoot up, and you can no longer buy anything for under £1...or even £5.
So, in today's market, it is vital for getting the most for your money. Here are some failsafe tips for shopping vintage:-
So, in today's market, it is vital for getting the most for your money. Here are some failsafe tips for shopping vintage:-
- The best time to shop vintage is mid-week. Charity shops tend to restock during the quieter periods of the week and it is an excellent opportunity to swoop in and grab a bargain.
- Don't be afraid to ask if there are any hidden gems in the stock room. Occasionally, stock is awaiting to be priced, and steamed, and it is very likely your 'dream' garment is still awaiting its voyage to the shop floor.
- If you can't get rid of a stench on an item of Vintage, then I swear by adding Zoflora to a spray pump and spritzing the garment.
- Size doesn't matter. Ignore sizes. A current UK 10 body may fit into a vintage UK 14.
- eBay is still the place to pick up a bargain. If you search for the words 'Vintage' in the eBay search bar, you may be surprised and just what is displayed.
Vintage Turnaround

Vintage Turnaround on the Newtown Road Estate in Henley is owned by Penny Morrell, wife of the late actor George Cole, OBE.
When I ventured in I was amazed and in awe of all the beautiful items of clothing, textiles, jewellery and furniture. When I talked to Penny, I found out that many of the clothing were bequeathed to her from colleagues in the TV and Film industry. Many of the items do have that certain 'je ne sais quoi' and encompass both quality and heritage.
So, what did I purchase on my trip? A lovely genuine Valentino nautical-inspired bag. And the price... was an unbelievable £5!!!
Wow and wow.

A Treasure Trove in Chichester

After a very, very wet Monday I stumbled upon some real finds at the Cancer Research Shop in Chichester. It has some real hidden beauties - picked up a gorge 70's asymmetric dress adorned with a rainbow of gems, green and black maxi skirt,... and 70's style blouse. Very affordable and the staff were very friendly and sat tucking into their party rings and tea as I shopped. Worth a gander if you are ever in the beautiful part of the world.
